Last year, over ten million people visited the Mona Lisa at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, making it the world’s most visited museum. For anyone that’s ever visited though, seeing the Mona Lisa in real life, the iconic Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece, can be a daunting experience due to the sheer number of people that visit it every day.

To help enhance the experience, the museum, in collaboration with HTC VIVE Arts and Paris-based VR company Emissive, developed a VR experience called Mona Lisa: Behind the Glass

“Through VR, the Louvre is now able to feature this world’s best-known painting in its retrospective of da Vinci’s work, while offering visitors a chance to experience the iconic image as never before,” HTC wrote in a blog post

In the space at the Louvre, there are 15 VR headsets available, powered by the newly released HTC VIVE Cosmos headsets, and by NVIDIA GeForce GPUs.

The experience allows viewers to come face-to-face with the Mona Lisa Bringing da Vinci’s vision to life for a new generation, the company stated. The exhibit runs from late October to February, 24 2020. HTC says they plan to make a longer version of the VR exhibit available to viewers at a later time.

A home version of the exhibit is available on HTC VIVEPORT.
