Bojan Tunguz

Bojan Tunguz was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he fled from with his family to Croatia during the war. Bojan came to the US as a high-school exchange student, and subsequently went on to study physics and applied physics at Stanford University. Bojan holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Illinois. Bojan is a competitive machine learning modeler at NVIDIA. He has been working in the ML and data science fields for several years, and has experience with real-world FinTech problems. He is a Kaggle Grandmaster, and has been ranked in the top 20 for competitions in the world. He has seven Kaggle competition gold medals, and with his team has won the largest Kaggle competition at the time, Home Credit Classification challenge. One of his Kaggle gold medal works, from the Human Protein Classification challenge, was part of the publication in Nature Methods. Bojan considers himself an ML generalist, and has considerable experience working with a wide variety of ML problems - image, NLP, voice, tabular, etc. He is passionate about learning and exploring new applications of ML, especially those that can have a significant impact on real-world problems.
