Hongyu Sun

Hongyu Sun is a postdoctoral scholar working with Zachary E. Ross in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at California Institute of Technology. She received her PhD in geophysics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2017-2022), under the guidance of Laurent Demanet. Hongyu received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Jilin University, China. As an intern geoscientist, she also had industrial research experience at TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil. She has a broad interest in the intersection between data science and earth science and is dedicated to developing machine learning tools to solve challenging geoscience problems.
