PhysX DCC

These DCC tools can be used to create both PhysX and APEX assets.

PhysX Plug-In for 3ds Max

The next-generation PhysX plug-in for Autodesk 3ds Max (Version 2.72) is currently in public beta. The beta release features:

  • Rigid bodies, constraints, and ragdolls and APEX Clothing.
  • First-class toolbar and menu for creating and controlling the simulation.
  • Modifier-based workflow.
  • Physical material system for sharing and adjusting physics properties on many objects at once.
  • Ragdolls that derive collision volumes from a skinned mesh.
  • Bake simulation results to keyframes for offline rendering.
  • Support for 3ds Max 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

PhysX Plug-In for Autodesk Maya

The next-generation PhysX plug-in for Autodesk Maya (Version 2.72) is currently in public beta. The beta release features:

  • Rigid bodies, constraints, and ragdolls, and APEX Clothing (including soft bodies).
  • Separate controls for playing back the simulation, with or without Maya animation.
  • Ragdolls that derive collision volumes from a skinned mesh.
  • An updated rigid body system, providing improved control over a single body comprised of multiple shapes.
  • Bake simulation results to keyframes for offline rendering.
  • New documentation describing workflows and best practices.
  • Support for Maya 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 both 32-bit and 64-bit.

We have created some tutorials to help demonstrate the process of adding simulated Clothing physical properties to existing 3ds Max or Maya assets.

PhysX for Autodesk Softimage

PhysX support is built into Autodesk Softimage. No separate plug-in is necessary.

PhysX plug-in Download

The PhysX plug-ins are freely available for download through the APEX/PhysX Registered Developer Program (RDP).  If you are not registered you will first need to

  • Register for the NVIDIA Registered Developer Program (RDP).
  • After you created an account an email will be sent to you with further instructions.
  • Fill out the general RDP registration form and
  • Apply to the APEX/PhysX Registered Developer Program.
  • Once you are registered in the APEX/PhysX RDP, we will send you an email with download information for the APEX/PhysX tools and SDKs.
