MicroController Unit (MCU)#

A Safety Microcontroller Unit (MCU) in automotive systems is a dedicated, high-reliability processor designed to monitor and manage the safety functions of a vehicle’s electronic systems. It operates independently from the main processing units, ensuring that critical safety tasks such as fault detection, diagnostics, and fail-safe responses are executed reliably, even if other parts of the system encounter issues. Safety MCUs are designed to comply with stringent automotive safety standards, such as ISO 26262, to support safe operation in autonomous and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
