NVIDIA Development Tools Solutions - ERR_NVGPU: Unsupported GPU

Overview

You may encounter the following error message when using NVIDIA developer tools:

• ERR_NVGPU unsupported GPU (CUDA 13.0 or lower)
• Profiling is not supported on the specific SKU of device ID (CUDA 13.1 or higher)

If you are receiving this error, then

• You are using a tool that doesn't support, or has limited support for, the specified GPU SKU with the installed driver.
• Check this page for support updates, below.

The status of GPUs with limited or no support

Crypto Mining Processors:

All Crypto Mining GPUs are unsupported by all DevTools. There is no plan to provide DevTools support for these GPUs.

GB202 GPU SKUs:

• RTX 6000D BSE (GB202-891)
• RTX 5090DD (GB202-240)
• RTX 5090D (GB202-250)

Affected Developer tools

GPU profiling support is available for the above GB202 SKUs starting CUDA 13.3. Prior CUDA versions (13.0, 13.1, 13.2) did not have the support leading to the above ERR_NVGPU error message

Here's a breakdown of the Developer Tool versions that are supported/not-supported.

• Nsight Compute
• Versions 2025* and 2026.1 - No support
• GPU profiling is supported from version 2026.2 or higher


• CUPTI
• CUDA 13.0, 13.1, 13.2 - No support
• GPU profiling is supported from CUDA 13.3 onwards and requires driver R580 or newer.


• Nsight Graphics
• Versions 2025* and 2026.1 - No support
• GPU profiling is supported from Version 2026.2 or higher


• Nsight Systems
• Versions 2025* and 2026.1, 2026.2 - No support.
• GPU profiling is supported from Version 2026.3 or higher


• PerfSDK
• Versions 2025* - No support.
• GPU profiling is supported from 2026.3 or higher
