NVIDIA Developer Newsletter #39: May 2008

In This Issue:
It's been a busy few weeks since GDC 2008 here at NVIDIA. We're happy
to share new toolkits, documentation, and software --
and a chance for you to win a new high-performace NVIDIA
GPU -- before the summer gets into full swing!
NVISION 2008 is coming to San Jose,
California, August 25-27. Among its many features (including the 6th
Annual Electronic Sports World Cup, the world's first 3D Stereo
Gaming LAN, and a shot at creating the world's largest LAN gaming event),
NVISION will feature a Professional
Game Developer track where you can learn from, and interact with,
Game Engine Developers, Physics Developers, other Game Developers, and
of course NVIDIA's own game development team.
Follow this
link for info, and watch for the full schedule of
game-developer-centric in the coming days.

The latest NVIDIA PhysX
SDK contains numerous updates, including improved joint-performance
and updated plug-ins for 3DStudioMax and Maya. We’ve also upgraded our
optimization and performance tuning tools with new features available
across all platforms.

NVIDIA's acquisition of AGEIA has led to a number of
exciting changes, including the migration of PhysX support to
NVIDIA.COM. You'll still get the same great cross-platform support,
from the same PhysX team, at the PhysX Developer Support Site, and the
new PhysX area in the NVIDIA Developer Forums.

Updated Visual Remote Debugger and AgPerfmon optimization
and debugging tools released with PhysX SDK v2.8.1
Available for free as part of the PhysX
SDK v2.8.1, the Visual Remote Debugger (VRD) and AgPerfmon are two
great tools you may not be aware of that make optimizing and debugging
your PhysX application much easier. They can be dramatic time-savers
both in your own debugging efforts and – through a data-export
capability – PhysX support staff diagnosing and solving your
problems…without even needing a build of your game!

New PhysX developer support process dramatically
reduces response and resolution times
The NVIDIA acquisition of AGEIA has allowed us to
completely revamp our developer support offerings, with all
the great new resources you’ve come to expect from the leader
in supporting great games. We’ve introduced some new
processes that will reduce response and resolution times on
trouble-tickets submitted to our paid support site. In
addition, we’ve streamlined our support offerings and of
course we always have free community support via the public
developer forums.

Public betas of FX
Composer 2.5 and our brand-new Shader
Debugger Beta plug-in are now available, providing:
- DirectX 10 support (including geometry shaders and stream out)
- Support for debugging of pixel shaders, including run
control, variable inspection, and powerful visual
debugging functionality
- Particle systems
- Visual models and styles (the ability to create,
define, and export multiple looks for a model)
- Improved user interface
- Remote control over TCP/IP
- And much more...
We strongly encourage you to join our Software Improvement
Program, which will allow you to drive the development of future
product versions based on features that you value. In
addition, it allows you to instantly send comments anonymously to us
from within FX Composer, simply by pressing <F4>.

NVIDIA, in conjunction with publisher Addison-Wesley, has begun the
process of making some of the very best GPU information and
documentation available online -- for free!
In March, we introduced the original Frontline-Award-winning GPU
Gems to online readers. In the past week, it's been joined by
The
Cg Tutorial.
Prefer a printed copy for your desk? Newsletter readers can purchase beautifully
printed versions of all our books at a 30% discount,
courtesy of InformIT and Addison-Wesley. Just follow this link.
During the week of May 12, we'll begin serializing
chapters of GPU Gems II, with new chapters available each week.
Visit the NVIDIA Developer
Site for all the details.

The developer's search for solid, up-to-date documentation
never ends -- that's why we've done a comprehensive update of the OpenGL
Support Documents on the NVIDIA.COM website. The new docs cover the
new OpenGL features introduced with the GeForce 8800, including
geometry shaders and more -- they also improve on previous feature
documentation.

Imagine immersing yourself in the world of 3D content like
never before. Monsters, bullets, and landscapes jump out of
your flat monitor and into your imagination, making you part
of the game. With NVIDIA® GeForce® 3D Stereo technology,
gaming will never be the same.
Amazingly, your game may already be playable in 3D
stereo. Thanks to the NVIDIA 3D Stereo
Driver for Vista, many games are playable in stereo right out of
the box -- we've played over 80 successful games already.
Find out all about NVIDIA's 3D support, and how you can
make the most of it with a minimum of effort, at NVIDIA's
3D Stereo Developer Page.
