NVIDIA Texture Tools 2

The MIT-licensed source code for our Texture Tools 2 is available! (See below)

This latest release contains:

  • High quality filtering for mipmap generation and image resizing.
  • Added support for DXT1a format, and improved support for RGB and BC5 formats.
  • Improved documentation
  • And of course a handful of fixes to improve function & performance

The previous, alpha release included a number of other important improvements:

  • 22% faster CUDA-accelerated DXT compressor
  • Compiled/compatible with release NVIDIA CUDA Toolkit 1.1
  • Added support for input DDS files, including cube maps
  • Added support for input PSD files
  • Added nvdecompress tool
  • Added nvimgdiff tool
  • Added nvddsinfo tool
  • DXT3 & DXT5 CUDA compressors
  • Faster DXT5n CPU compressor
  • Several bug fixes

12.5x faster and with higher-quality DXT compression than our previous version, our new GPU-accelerated Texture Tools support new DirectX 10 texture formats and come with complete source code.

The graph below shows the compression rate (in textures per second) across a range of popular high-quality compressors.  All compressors were running on one processor of an Intel Core 2 Duo X6800, and the texture size was 1,536 x 1,536.

Not all functionality of our previous texture tools has been ported to this new version.  The older tools are still available, but please note that they are not GPU-accelerated.
